Your board asked about AI. This is the answer you can give them.

The AI Readiness Briefing is a two-week engagement that tells your organization where AI actually belongs, what to do in the next thirty days, and what to ignore. It costs $2,500 and produces a one-page readiness scorecard and a written 30-day action plan you can execute without us. DHMEC.AI advises arts, culture, and mission-driven organizations in the Charlotte region. We don’t build software and we take no vendor commissions, so the recommendation you get is the one we’d make if we had nothing to gain.

What the Readiness Briefing is

Most organizations in our range are stuck between two bad options. One is doing nothing while a board member asks the same question every quarter. The other is committing to a five-figure strategy engagement before anyone can say what problem it solves.

The Briefing exists in that gap. Two weeks, one fixed fee, and a document short enough that your board will actually read it.

Week one: intake and review. A short written intake, then we read what you already have — your operations, your systems, your last two years of stated priorities. Most of what we need is already written down somewhere in your organization.

Week two: the working session. Ninety minutes with your leadership. Not a presentation — a working conversation about where the time actually goes, what’s breaking, and which of it a tool could plausibly touch.

Then: the deliverables. A one-page readiness scorecard showing where your organization stands across the dimensions that predict whether an AI effort succeeds or stalls. And a 30-day action plan with named owners, in sequence, that you can run without hiring anyone — including us.

What it is not

It isn’t implementation. We don’t build, configure, or deploy anything, and we don’t resell anyone’s software.

It isn’t AI training. If your team needs to learn tools, we’ll tell you that and point you somewhere — but a prompt workshop doesn’t answer the question your board asked.

It isn’t a sales call with a document attached. The Briefing stands on its own. A meaningful share of them end with us telling an organization that the honest answer is “not yet,” or “you already own the thing you’re about to buy.”

Who this is for

We work with arts and cultural institutions, nonprofits, and mission-driven organizations in the Charlotte region and across the Carolinas — typically $250,000 to $5 million in annual budget. We also serve hospitality, wellness, lifestyle, food service, tourism, and property management organizations where the experience is the product.

The Briefing is the right first step when:

  • A board member, funder, or major donor has asked what your AI strategy is, and there isn’t a clean answer yet
  • Your organization is under $750,000 and a five-figure engagement isn’t proportionate
  • Leadership needs proof of value before approving a larger spend
  • Someone is already pitching you a tool and nobody internal can evaluate the claim
  • You tried something last year, it didn’t stick, and nobody’s sure why

Who should start elsewhere

If you already know which functions you’re targeting and need a full roadmap, vendor shortlist, and ROI model, go straight to the Opportunity Blueprint. If you have a roadmap and need someone in the room through selection and adoption, that’s the Standing Seat. And if what you actually need is a marketing strategy or an event produced, that’s our events and experiential practice, not this one.

What you receive

  • A short written intake and full review of your existing operational documentation
  • A 90-minute leadership working session
  • A one-page AI readiness scorecard
  • A written 30-day action plan with owners and sequence
  • A clear recommendation on whether to go further, including when the answer is no
  • Your $2,500 credited in full toward an Opportunity Blueprint booked within 60 days

Where it leads

Nothing obligates you to continue. For organizations that do, there are two further steps.

Opportunity Blueprint — a three-to-five-week diagnostic that ends with a decision you can fund and defend. Leadership and end-user interviews, process mapping, an opportunity matrix, a prioritized 18-month roadmap, an ROI model built on your real numbers, a scored vendor shortlist, and a board-ready presentation. Essential $8,500 (under $1M, one function), Standard $15,000 ($1M–$5M, two to three functions), Extended $22,000 (over $5M or multi-site).

Standing Seat — a monthly retainer where we remain your independent AI advisor through selection, implementation, and adoption. Advisor $1,800, Partner $3,200, Executive $5,000, six-month minimum.

Why independence matters here

Most people advising you on AI make money on what you buy. Software vendors, implementation partners, and resellers all have a preferred answer before the conversation starts.

We don’t build software, we don’t resell it, and we take no commissions from any vendor or partner in either direction. That’s not a positioning line; it’s the structure of the business, and it’s why we can tell you that three of the fourteen AI features your existing platform just shipped are worth turning on and the other eleven aren’t.

Questions we get

What does the AI Readiness Briefing cost? $2,500, credited in full toward an Opportunity Blueprint booked within 60 days.

How long does it take? Two weeks. A short intake and document review in the first week, a 90-minute leadership working session in the second, and deliverables after.

Who should be in the working session? Whoever can make decisions and whoever knows where the time actually goes — often an executive director plus an operations or program lead. Three to five people is typical.

How do we know it will pay off? For the Briefing, the scorecard and 30-day plan are the return, and the plan is designed to be run in-house at no further cost. Before any implementation spend, a Blueprint builds an ROI model on your real numbers — hours, rates, headcount. If the model doesn’t clear, we say wait. That has happened.

Is our data safe? We don’t touch your data. We assess process and people. If you go on to select a vendor, security and privacy review is a scored line item in the selection, not an afterthought.

Couldn’t our own team do this? Sometimes, and we’ll say so when it’s true. But your team’s attention is the scarcest resource you have, and the research on AI adoption consistently finds that failures are organizational rather than technical — unclear purpose, no owner, no measurement, sponsorship that faded. We’re taking a decision off your team’s plate, not adding a project to it.

We tried AI before and it didn’t stick. Is this different? That’s the most common thing we hear. The Briefing is specifically designed to surface why the last attempt stalled before you spend again.

Our software already added AI features. Do we still need this? Often that is the answer, and we’ll tell you. The real question is which of the features your platform just shipped are worth turning on, in what order, and who owns them.

Why not a large consulting firm? They start at a scale most organizations in our range can’t use, and they staff engagements with people learning your sector on your budget. You’d be their smallest client. You’re our core client.

Do you work outside Charlotte? Yes. The intake and working session are virtual by default, and we work across the Carolinas and beyond. In-person sessions are available in the Charlotte region.
